Exercise Week Ending July 11

Because the exercise logs have become so repetitious, I thought I’d combine them into a weekly review instead of day by day. So, for a fresh start, here’s what I did for exercise the week ending July 11, 2010.

The early part of the week was a bust. I had several scheduling conflicts which kept me out of the pool until Friday.

Friday, July 9

Because it had been a week since my last exercise, I was swimming a little slower and needing a little longer to recover between sets.

I also found all the lanes in use, so I had to share a lane with another swimmer.

Warmup: 1 lap easy breaststroke, 2 laps easy backstroke, rest 2 minutes

Set 1: 2 laps sidestroke, rest 2-1/2 minutes

Set 2: 2 laps backstroke, rest 2-1/2 minutes

Set 3: 2 laps hard breaststroke, rest 3-1/2 minutes

Set 4: 1 lap overhand backstroke, rest 2-1/2 minutes

Set 5: 1 lap hard crawl, rest 2 minutes

5 minutes in the hot tub
10 minutes in the sauna

Total time in gym: 45 minutes

July 11

Had a lane to myself, thankfully. The only other person in the pool was swimming repetitive laps incredibly slowly. I mean, I’m pretty slow, but I was doing my breaststroke faster than she was swimming her crawl. Weird.

My recovery times were better today than Friday even though I was forcing myself to work harder. So, here’s the breakdown:

Warmup: 1 lap easy breaststroke, 2 laps easy backstroke, rest 1-1/2 minutes

Set 1: 2 laps sidestroke, rest 1-3/4 minutes

Set 2: 2 laps backstroke, rest 1-3/4 minutes

Set 3: 2 laps breaststroke, rest 2 minutes

Set 4: 1 lap overhand backstroke, rest 2 minutes (I really pushed myself on this one!)

Set 5: 1/2 lap fast crawl, then rest

5 minutes in the hot tub

12 minutes in the sauna

Total time in gym: 40 minutes
