Exercise: Day 1
Today I exercised in the pool for the first time in a couple of years. Yay for me!
I headed out to my local LA Fitness around 2 PM. This was a great time, as the place was nearly deserted. I didn’t see any women out in the gym — all guys, which was a bit intimidating — but there was another woman in the pool when I went in so that was good.
Once I got into the pool I followed my plan. I couldn’t actually time myself or check my heart rate as the clock was so high up on the wall I couldn’t really read it without my glasses, but that’s ok for now.
I walked the length of the pool once to warm up, then did a quick crawl for my first lap. (It was probably a really slow crawl, in fact, but it was fast for me. I put everything I had into it.) Then I rested. And rested. . . it took me longer to recover than I had expected, but I waited until my breathing was pretty much back to normal.
Then I swam another lap. This time I didn’t need to rest quite as long to recover. I continued doing this, swimming different strokes to break up the monotony for a total of 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes I hopped out of the pool and into the hot tub where I cooked for about 10 minutes before heading for the shower.
Total time in the gym: 30 minutes.
