Exercise: Day 14

This was my first day back in the gym after the UltraSimple Diet week. The diet instructions were to avoid vigorous exercise during the week, as it was a time to heal. I found my rest and recovery times today were much slower. I guess I’ll have to work back up to where I was before that week off. I did add a fifth set as I’m swimming my laps faster now. Warmup: 1 lap easy breaststroke, 2 laps easy backstroke, rest 2 minutes Set 1: 2 laps sidestroke, rest 2 minutes Set 2: 2 laps backstroke, rest 2 minutes Set 3: 2 laps hard breaststroke, rest 3 minutes Set 4: 1 lap overhand backstroke, rest 2 minutes...

Exercise: Day 13

This was essentially the same workout as Day 12. Next time I’m going to add another set. Warmup: 1 lap breaststroke, 2 laps easy backstroke, rest 1 minute. Set 2: 2 laps backstroke, 2 minutes rest. Set 3: 2 laps vigorous breast stroke, rested for 2 minutes. Set 4: 1/2 lap intense crawl, then rested. Hot tub: 5 minutes Sauna: 10 minutes Total time in gym: 35...

UltraSimple Diet — Was it Worth it?

My week on the UltraSimple Diet (from the book The UltraSimple Diet: Kick-Start Your Metabolism and Safely Lose Up to 10 Pounds in 7 Days) is officially over, but as I’ve discovered nothing in this program is ever as simple as the name suggests. The “week” has already become three weeks, with more to come: first was the prep week when I got completely off caffeine, sugar, wheat, and a few other things and did my shopping and preparation for the actual diet. The second week was the “official” diet week. This is now over. Day 1 Days 2 & 3 Days 4 & 5 Days 6 & 7 Now I’m into the third week, the back end...

Exercise: Day 12

Got to LA Fitness and all three lanes were occupied. Oh, well. This was pretty much the same routine as last time, except my recovery times were shorter. Except for my first set, as you’ll see. Warmup: 1 lap breaststroke, 2 laps easy backstroke, rest 1 minute. Set 1: I actually worked harder than usual on this. There was a guy in the next lane who was painfully slow. I wanted to see if I could do a sidestroke faster than he could manage his crawl. Sadly, I did. . . but I needed an extra 30 seconds to rest afterwards. Set 2: 2 laps backstroke, 2 minutes rest. Set 3: 2 laps vigorous breast stroke, rested for...

The Home Stretch: Days 6 & 7 of the UltraSimple Diet...

Day 6 On the sixth day, I was feeling really, really sick and tired of the shakes, the broth, everything. Can’t wait until I have a bit more variety in what I can eat and drink. I’m also looking forward very much to not drinking this foul lemon juice/olive oil cocktail first thing in the morning. It is truly disgusting, and every time I drink I my whole body just shivers at the first sip. The day went well, overall, and I was feeling pretty good despite not getting enough sleep the night before. For some reason, despite the UltraBath and the supplements that are supposed to help with sleep, I’m taking hours to drift off. Day 7...

Days 4 and 5 of the UltraSimple Diet

Day 4 The day started well, mainly because I finally got a good night’s sleep! I woke up feeling pretty terrific after about 9 hours. I checked my blood sugar first thing (I don’t do this every day, just a couple of times a week). Much to my surprise, it was 108. It has been running around 120, so this is an improvement. I also felt really energized. Is this what being healthy feels like? It’s almost scary. . . After lunch, I didn’t feel the need to nap for the first time since I started the diet. Instead, I went for a walk with my dogs. I checked my glucose, and it was 100 postprandial. 100! I...

Exercise: Day 11

Warmup was the same as for Day 10, but I only needed to rest for one minute. In fact, this session was surprising for me because my rest periods were shorter after each set than they have been. I think that’s a sign of good progress. Set 1: two laps sidestroke, 1-1/2 minutes rest. Set 2: 2 laps backstroke, 2 minutes rest. Set 3: 2 laps breast stroke, rested for 2 minutes. Set 4: 1/2 lap intense crawl, then rested. Hot tub: 5 minutes Saunta: 10 minutes at setting 5. I’m getting better at this — it takes longer before I feel like my entire face is going to pucker off. Total Time in Gym: 35...

Days 2 and 3 of the UltraSimple Diet

Day 2 My second day on the diet started oddly, and went down hill from there. Some of it was just life and would have happened anyway, some was diet related. All the information you need to do the UltraSimple diet yourself can be found in the book [ad#UltraSimple Diet Book], available at Amazon.com. First off, I woke up after only three hours of sleep. I tried and tried, but finally gave up on sleep and got up feeling like a zombie. Then there was a fracas in the neighborhood that involved the police. More excitement than I wanted to start my day, for sure! After that, my husband called in a panic. “Have you seen my wallet...

My First Day on the UltraSimple Diet

After a week of preparation, today was my first day on the UltraSimple Diet. I did all the prep last week, including getting myself completely off caffeine, flour and gluten. Some of the other no-nos, like sugar and trans fats, I’ve been off for quite a while anyway, so that was no problem. If you don’t have a copy yet, you can find all the information you need to do this diet, including recipes, checklists and access to online tools. The book is [ad#UltraSimple Diet Book]. Clicking the link will take you to Amazon, where you can purchase a copy. Yesterday I went shopping and bought an enormous amount of vegetables and other organic, whole foods to last...
